Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnakes, Shark Attack Capital of the world, Fire Ants, Black Widow and Brown Recluse Spiders, Mosquitos, Burmese Python Breeding Ground, Alligators, Crocodiles and Caimans, Cottonmouths, Copperheads, and Coral Snakes, Black Bears, Box Jellyfish and Lionfish. We also have Panthers and Coyotes, although they aren't as much of a threat because of the rarity of the Panther and the shyness of the Coyote.
One(of many) of the reasons that I didn't relish going into Florida. More animals there that can kill you than Australia.
ReplyDeleteI love it here but I've become climatized to the wildlife and what to watch out for. I've had close encounters with all the venomous snakes here. I don't do any swimming in the ocean or really dark water near the coast, so no shark experiences except on a hook. Black widows and brown recluses are in the corner of your mind anytime you mess around with stuff in dark corners you haven't reached into in the shop and out in brush piles or overgrown areas. Panthers are so rare here that seeing one is more of a thrill than a threat. Black bears are worthy of respect if you spend any time in the woods ... carry bear spray. Mosquitos are bitches that survive here because of all the standing water almost everywhere BUT the real everyday serious threat are the fire ants. I tell people not familiar with Florida, 'Always check out where your standing and don't set your baby down anywhere on the ground.' They can put a real hurtin' on a young child.
DeleteI lived in South Alabama long enough to appreciate Eastern Diamondbacks, cotton mouths and fire ants. Even gators, had two that lived in a large pond in the property behind mine.
