The only mechanism for employers to verify the legal status of a new hire is e-verify. The illegal alien knows he is in the country illegally. The employer uses the documentation supplied by the illegal alien to check e-verify. Any other checks by the employer are illegal. So ... if the employer hires an illegal alien, they may not have a choice.

If e-verify is used as it should be, fake documentation will not pass the scrutiny of the process MOST of the time. I've used the system with my previous employer.
