DeleteI truly believe that Fauci was so ego-maniacle that he believed that he was perceived as the savior of mankind (i.e., the Democrat Party) and that he would never be brought to an accounting. And then, when it seemed he might be exposed, he thought that the retro-active pardon would protect him from the evil truth seekers.
For him it was never about science, imo, it was about his stature, and being a small man, that meant more than humanity.
